HISTORY

HIS (short for Home Improvement Specialists) started in 2004, primarily as a retractable screen dealer for San Diego. Within the first year of operation we became a distributor for Clear View Retractable Screens for the original owners of Clearview, Darryl and Dennis Grubb, then located in Anaheim, CA. For the next roughly 20 years we fabricated, and installed Clear View Retractable Screens in our Escondido shops, for 3 different owners of the Clearview screens in CA. During that time we expanded our product offerings to motorized patio screens, or what we call powerscreens, selling several brands including EGE, Universal, Wave Guide, Rainier, and one or two others. In 2021 we decided to apply our decades of experience and knowledge of the San Diego Market and started making our own. In 2023 we launched the Apollo brand, and began our own line of retractable screen doors as well.

We've been in this business so long, we've seen every competitor come and go. There have been no less than 5 Phantom distributors in our tenure in San Diego. We've raised our children in the business. We've outgrown our space 4 times. We have 4 employees on staff still that we can trace to hires back in 2004! We have almost 50,000 jobs installed - we are the masters of a one day upgrade to your San Diego home. There are maybe 1 or 2 individuals in San Diego county, not companies, that have anywhere close to our knowledge in the world of motorized and retractable screens. Each and every job is custom measured, and built to order, and finally installed by our staff. We have a 4.9 google rating, and a 4.5 Yelp rating with HUNDREDS not dozens of reviews. Our factory showroom displays all of our products, and we answer the phone and emails all day everyday. Our GM Christian has essentially grown up in the business. He has worked every job there is in our San Diego company, and has installed himself thousands of retractable screens, and measured tens of thousands more.
