Apollo's retractable sliding screen replaces the whole system: it glides on our own tracking system, retracts into a sealed side cassette when you're not using it, and disappears against the glass instead of hanging on it. The handle is the first thing you'll notice: solid die-cast metal, not the hollow plastic pull you're used to fighting with on a hardware-store screen. Pull it across and it moves the way a cheap sliding screen never does: no catching, no fighting the track, no extra shove to get it the last few inches. Let go and a built-in speed reducer eases it back into the cassette on its own. No slam. Every frame is powder-coated in-house after the aluminum is cut, so there's no raw edge sitting exposed to the coastal air. Give it a week and you'll stop noticing it's there at all.
Fit is what actually determines whether a sliding screen jumps its track or glides for years. A frame that's even slightly off is where the sticking starts. Apollo measures every opening to within 1/16 of an inch and builds the frame to match at our Escondido factory: 6063-T6 extruded aluminum, glass-filled D66 nylon on the non-metal parts so nothing goes brittle in the sun. The mesh is Apollo's own stiff fiberglass, sturdier than a standard window screen and barely visible once it's deployed. Mesh, mechanism, and hardware all carry a limited lifetime warranty. Openings up to 65 inches wide take a single screen; go wider and we'll spec a double-panel configuration, like the Escondido install pictured here.
