Front and rear entries covered with retractable screens in Palm Springs

A homeowner in Palm Springs needed retractable screen doors on both the front and rear entries of their home. Desert heat makes cross-ventilation essential, but open doors without screens turn the house into an open invitation for insects. Two units were custom built and installed to handle both openings.

Each screen was sized to within one-sixteenth of an inch of its respective doorframe. When pulled across, the mesh blocks insects while letting air move freely through the house from front to back. When not in use, both screens retract completely into aluminum housing that sits flush against the frame. The homeowner wanted curb appeal preserved on the front entry and an unobstructed view from the rear — both goals met with a single product type installed in two locations.

Dual-entry setups like this are common in the Palm Springs area where homeowners rely on natural airflow instead of running air conditioning around the clock. The difference between one screen and two is the ability to pull a real cross-breeze through the entire home.
