There are many options and choices you have for your front door screen. You can choose anything from a traditional screen door to a storm door, a security door, or even the more modern choice of a retractable screen door. I, of course, am biased, so read this with that in mind. I think the best choice for a screen for a front door is obviously a retractable screen door but let me walk you through some of the other options, and their advantages and disadvantages on a front door in particular.
Storm doors are usually made of aluminum, wood, or sometimes steel. They feature tempered glass to let light in when you open your front door, but keep out cold, wind, rain, and yes, storms. They are hinged and always present in front of your front door.
Modern storm doors have screen inserts. You can remove a piece of the door, usually the glass, and replace it with a screen mesh. It’s now a screen door! Well, at least a small one. Here’s the thing, who opens their front door in winter to let light in? What is the point of the storm door? I know your neighbors have one, but how often do you use it as intended?
The answer is probably not very often, but you do use it 100 percent of the time. What I mean by that is you must always open your storm door, and THEN your front door to get in and out of the house. Lots of fun when it’s raining or snowing, and even more fun if you have groceries in both hands.
What if you have a screen there when you need it, but it’s out of the way when you don’t. That’s what a retractable screen does. Never wrestle with 2 doors to get in your house again. Retractable and virtually invisible in the right environment, you get a breeze without bugs Your front door with a screen door gives you a fantastic cross breeze to the back of your home. Remember I’m biased, we are selling the best retractable screen door. It works as a great screen door for dutch doors, too. Go ahead. Air it out. You’ll be glad you did.
