Retractable Screen Installed On Out-Swing French Doors In Encinitas

A homeowner in Encinitas needed a screen solution for out-swing French doors without covering them up or compromising how they looked from inside or out. We built and installed a retractable screen door custom fit to the opening.

Out-swing French doors create a specific clearance problem that most screen options cannot solve. This unit was sized to within one-sixteenth of an inch, so the screen retracts completely into the housing when not in use — the doors look exactly the same as they did before. A slow-close speed reducer was included so there is no slamming when the screen releases.

The mesh keeps bugs out while maintaining the view through the glass panels, which was the main ask from this homeowner. All-metal handles and high-grade aluminum housing round out a build that holds up in the coastal San Diego climate.
