A San Diego homeowner with a set of French doors needed a screen solution that would not compete with the doors themselves. Standard single-panel screen doors do not work on French door openings, so we built a dual retractable screen door system sized to the exact opening.

Both screens pull from opposite sides and meet at the center, giving the opening full coverage without any center post or fixed frame in the way. The homeowner can also run just one panel at a time — useful when carrying groceries through or letting a dog out without opening both doors. Housing is aluminum. Mesh is nearly invisible at normal viewing distance. The fit was held to within one-sixteenth of an inch.

When neither screen is in use, both retract completely. The French doors stay visible, and there is nothing mounted across the opening to interrupt the look.
